DELIVERY QUESTIONS
How long will my paper lanterns, Chinese parasols, tissue pom poms, or hand-held fans take to arrive?
We guarantee to dispatch all orders received by 2pm Monday to Friday on the same day. This does not mean that we will not process orders received after 2pm but we cannot guarantee this due to the high volume of orders received each day.
We offer next day EXPRESS delivery services within the UK and to most mainland European regions. Please visit our DELIVERY PAGE for all available services.
Can I track my order from The Hanging Lantern Company?
We can track all orders shipped within the UK by courier, and all orders to destinations within Europe, or to the rest of the world. Just let us know you would like the tracking details when placing your order.
If you provide a UK mobile number during the order process you will receive an SMS on the day of delivery informing you of the estimated time of delivery of your hanging lanterns, parasols, fans or tissue pompom order.
Can I provide additional delivery instructions for the delivery driver if I am going to be out when my hanging lanterns are due to arrive?
Yes – when selecting to have your order dispatched by Next Working Day Courier use the ‘Order Comments’ field during checkout to provide any additional information such as a safe place to leave your parcel, or a neighbour who can take your hanging lanterns in for you.
Can I pick my hanging lanterns, Chinese parasols, tissue pom-poms, or paper fans up from you?
Our London office does not hold any stock. Our warehouse is located in East Sussex (TN22 5QE), and we would be happy for you to collect your order. Please call us on 0845 465 5585 to arrange.
Do you have a shop that I can buy paper lanterns, Chinese parasols, tissue pom poms and paper fans from?
Unfortunately we do not have a physical shop, but we do distribute to a number of major retailers nationwide. Our warehouse is located in East Sussex (TN22 5QE) and you are more than welcome to pop in with prior agreement.

Can I place my order with The Hanging Lantern Company over the phone?
Yes of course you can – simply call 0845 465 5585 between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and we would be happy to process your order for hanging lanterns, Chinese parasols, or tissue pom-poms over the phone.
Can I pay for my Chinese lanterns, paper parasols and hand-held fans by cheque?
Yes of course you can – simply select ‘Check’ during checkout. Please make your cheque payable to ‘The Hanging Lantern Company Ltd’ and send it to:

How can I buy hanging lanterns, Chinese parasols, tissue pom poms or paper fans if I live outside of the UK?
We have a small selection of countries listed on our website during checkout but are more than happy to dispatch hanging lanterns, Chinese parasols, and paper fans to any destination in the world.

You must return your order within 14 days of purchase. We can only refund your postage fee if the order is deemed to be faulty.
Please enclose a note with your order reference number and details of what you would like to swap your items for. There may be a re-stocking fee for this unless the hanging lanterns, Chinese parasols, or hand-held fans are deemed faulty or damaged.

HANGING LANTERN QUESTIONS
How are hanging lanterns measured?
Our hanging lanterns are measured in a number of different ways depending upon their shape. All measurements are in inches:
Round paper hanging lanterns – round hanging lanterns in both the even and irregular designs are measured in diameter
Oval paper hanging lanterns – oval hanging lanterns are measured in diameter around their widest part. The height of the oval lanterns is 10 inches
Cylinder paper lanterns – cylindrical lanterns are measured in diameter and are available in 2 sizes, 8 inches and 12 inches. Both versions are 14 inches in height.
Kawaii paper lanterns – kiwi shaped lanterns are 10 inches in width and 13.5 inches high.
Square paper lanterns – square hanging lanterns are 12 inches in length and 8 inches width.
Flower ball lanterns – nylon flower ball lanterns are 12 inches in diameter with nylon roses inserted into the 12 inch nylon lantern
Is it easy to hang the paper lanterns?
Hanging lanterns arrive flat and individually packaged with a wire frame. Simply open up the hanging lantern and insert the wire frame to give it shape. The wire frame has a ’C’ shaped hook at the top that enables you to suspend the lantern from a wedding marquee frame, wooden beam, or ceiling.
Can I illuminate my Chinese hanging lanterns?
Both our paper hanging lanterns and nylon hanging lanterns can be illuminated in a number of ways.
Festoon lighting is widely available and can be used in conjunction with our hanging lanterns to provide a mains powered lighting solution. If using our hanging lanterns in a wedding marquee you may find that your marquee company has festoon lighting already. Simply weave the cable through the ‘C’ shaped hook at the top of the lantern
We offer a range of individual battery powered LED lights that can be hung inside our hanging lanterns. Each battery powered LED light comes on a length of cord or a key chain allowing you to suspend the LED light inside the hanging lanterns from the ‘C’ shaped hook.
Hanging lanterns can also be hung from a standard household ceiling light, simply weave the cable through the ‘C’ shaped hook at the top of the Chinese lantern.
Can I use hanging lanterns and LED light units outside?
Our nylon hanging lanterns are best for use outdoors, as they will withstand the rain, however, our paper lanterns are also suitable for use outside in good weather.
It must be noted that prolonged use of hanging lanterns in the rain or sun may lead to some rusting on the wire frame or discolouration of the lantern.
Floralytes (individual LED lights) are completely submersible in water so perfect for use outside regardless of the weather and last 36-48 hours when used in water!
Can I use my hanging paper lanterns as table decorations?
The design of our hanging lanterns means that the wire frame that gives them shape pokes out of the bottom and top of the hanging lantern slightly. This means that the hanging lantern would tip to one side if placed on a table of other flat surface.
Our square paper lanterns are designed slightly differently so they can be used as table decorations and an example of this can be seen in our lantern image gallery.
Are hanging lanterns safe?
Hanging lanterns are indeed safe and have been certified to comply with the BS EN 60598 safety directive.
We have selected LED lights to use with our paper and nylon hanging lanterns, as they do not emit any heat.
When using either the nylon or paper hanging lanterns with mains powered light bulbs you MUST adhere to the following guidelines (a copy of which in enclosed with every single lantern):
8” – 10” lanterns: max wattage 40W
12” – 16” lanterns: max wattage 60W
18” – 22” lanterns: max wattage 100W
24” lanterns: max wattage 150 W
30” lanterns: max wattage 200W
36” lanterns: max wattage 300W
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the selected light bulb does not exceed that maximum rating of either the lantern or the lamp/light fitting which the lantern is fitted to. The light bulb MUST be positioned in the middle of the lanterns, and the lantern should be at least 6.5” (16.5cm) from the ceiling.
How do I calculate how many hanging lanterns I may need or want at my wedding venue?
The number of hanging lanterns you may want or need depends entirely on the look you are trying to create and also may be determined by budget or your party/wedding venue.

Can I re-use my hanging lanterns?
Chinese hanging lanterns can be re-used time and time again, just open, assemble and disassemble them carefully. Our range of nylon hanging lanterns are much more durable than the paper lantern range so you may want to consider investing in nylon lanterns.
Can I paint or decorate my paper hanging lanterns?
You certainly can decorate your paper lanterns. We have supplied large quantities of paper hanging lanterns to schools across the UK, councils and charities for this purpose. Just be careful when decorating the hanging lanterns as they are made of paper. We would suggest that you ordered a couple of spares just in case the decorator is a little heavy handed with the paper lantern! Our white paper lanterns can be sprayed a completely different colour. If we do not stock the exact colour in our current range simply use Styro Colour spray paints to completely transform your paper lantern. Our customers have told us Styro Colours are perfect for use on our paper lanterns.
What should I use to hang my Chinese lanterns?
Our hanging lanterns really are very light so we suggest something as simple as a drawing pin and fishing line, coloured ribbon or even household string to hang your Chinese lanterns.
How do I suspend Chinese lanterns in a wedding marquee that has a lining?
Wedding marquees can be erected with or without lining to cover the ceiling framework. If you want to suspend paper lanterns inside a marquee with a lining do not panic – you can still use our lanterns.
The lining used in wedding marquees comes in small strips commonly 3m in width, the individual strips are joined together using Velcro or something similar, thus providing seams in the lining where you will be able to hang your lanterns. It may restrict the design and the number of hanging lanterns you can have but your wedding marquee company will be able to advise and assist you.
CHINESE PARASOL QUESTIONS
How are your Chinese parasols measured?
All of our paper parasols, both the traditional round parasols and our unique scalloped parasols, are measured in diameter to their widest points. Our gold and silver foil parasols are also measured in diameter
What are your traditional paper parasols made of?
Our wedding paper parasols are made of Chinese bamboo (the handle and parasol framework) and rice paper to create the coloured parasol.
How can I incorporate Chinese parasols into my wedding?
There are a few ways you can incorporate Chinese parasols into your wedding:
• Give your youngest flower girls a wedding parasol to carry down the aisle rather than a bouquet. The paper parasol will set them apart from older bridesmaids and also give them a unique keepsake of your wedding day.
• Paper parasols can be hung upside down from the ceiling of your wedding marquee and back lit to hide parts of the marquee frame if you do not have a lined marquee or simply to bring colour to the inside of a white space.
• Coloured parasols can be used to decorate the seating area of your wedding ceremony – if getting married in a church with traditional pews why not place some coloured parasols along the back of the last row of pews so your guests see the flash of colour when entering the church.
• If you’re getting married on a beach and your guests are sitting on white fold up chairs you could place a parasol at the end of each row of chairs, why not use a few different colours to indicate where family, friends and colleagues are to sit?
How will my traditional Chinese parasols arrive?
All of our Chinese paper parasols are closed flat and individually wrapped in a paper sleeve to protect them during transit. It is very easy to open, close and re-use your paper parasol time and time again. Just ensure you take care not to damage the rice paper.
Do the paper parasol colours match those of the hanging lanterns, tissue pom poms, and Chinese paper fans?
We have tried to ensure that all of our products are available in the same colours, so that you can mix and match paper lanterns, with tissue pompoms, Chinese fans, and paper parasols.
However, we cannot guarantee that the colours are exactly identical due to our products being made of different materials. For example a tissue pompom may appear lighter than a paper lantern due to the difference in the thickness of paper used. Rest assured though that the range of products held by The Hanging Lantern Company do compliment each other!
CHINESE PAPER FAN QUESTIONS
How are your Chinese paper fans measured?
We have measured our paper fans in length when closed; we have also detailed the number of bamboo struts used to create the paper fan.
What are your traditional paper fans made of?
Our coloured paper fans have been hand made using Chinese bamboo and rice paper.
How can I incorporate traditional Chinese paper fans into my wedding?
Why not write the names of your guests on the bamboo spin of the paper fan and place a coloured fan at each place setting to tell guests where they are sat at the wedding breakfast.
How will my traditional Chinese fans arrive?
All paper fans arrived flat packed and individually wrapped in a bag, perfect for transporting to your wedding venue home or abroad. They also make a pretty keepsake from your wedding day so be sure to let your guests know they can keep them!
Do the paper fan colours match those of the hanging lanterns and Chinese paper parasols?
We have tried to ensure that all of our products are available in the same colours, so that you can mix and match paper lanterns, with tissue pompoms, Chinese fans, and paper parasols.

TISSUE POM-POM QUESTIONS
Is it easy to hang the tissue pompoms?
Tissue pom poms or tissue flower balls as they are also known arrive flat in packets of 4. Each tissue flower ball comes on a length of white, satin ribbon to enable you to hang your tissue pom-pom once it has been ‘fluffed’. Fluffing takes 3-4 minutes per tissue pompom and each packet contains full instructions with photographs. We even have a video demonstration to show you how to fluff your tissue pom pom.

Can I illuminate my tissue pom-poms?
Tissue pom-poms are solid balls of tissue paper petals and do not have a void in the centre like our paper lanterns have. Therefore, you cannot illuminate a tissue pom-pom.
How are tissue pom-poms measured?
Tissue pom-poms, tissue flower balls as they are also commonly known are 15” in diameter when fully ‘fluffed’. When ordering a packet of tissue pom-poms they will arrive flat and 15” in length.
