The Hanging Lantern Company featured in leading wedding blog...
"Rather than have bright lighting at a venue I think it’s far nicer to create a much more romantic setting with the use of softer lighting such as paper lanterns, fairy lights, chandeliers, projected lighting and candles for those places that allow it. Even sparklers, although only alight for a short time, offer attractive illumination which can look amazing if captured on camera (I’ve seen some awesome images of this which I’ll post at a later date).
My love of lighting may well pop up on several occasions on this blog but today I am just going to focus on paper lanterns. Apparently these lights were initially used by the Chinese to ward off bad spirits. Although they’re now mainly just used for decoration it couldn’t hurt if they did really work in warding off bad spirits at your own wedding right? Magical powers or not I love these papery balls of light and have collected a few images to show you how pretty they can look...."

Children at Framfield Primary School celebrated the start of the year of the Tiger with a special Chinese day last week. They painted lanterns (donated by The Hanging Lantern Company) and paraded a life sized dragon around the school. There was a Chinese assembly and some of the children demonstrated how they had learned to count in the Chinese language. One group got together to tell the others the story of how each year carries the image and name of an animal. They heard that people born in the year of the Tiger are lucky and courageous. Children were told that Chinese New Year is a major holiday for Chinese people wherever they live and families celebrate with a feast and firecrackers. Early the next morning children greet their parents by wishing them a happy and healthy New Year and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New year tradition, they were told, is when every family thoroughly cleans the house o sweep away ill fortune. It is also a great way to forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Notes to Editors
Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice
Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county.
Completed in 2003, the hospice provides a ‘home from home’ environment with 10 children’s bedrooms plus 8 family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool. The house is set in beautiful gardens within an area of outstanding natural beauty.
There are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex. Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support.
It costs approximately £2 million per year to provide our care services. Families are not charged for their care and the hospice receives hardly any government funding at all, so it relies completely on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex.

Chinese New Year 14th February 2010
The Hanging Lantern Company is based in Ringmer, East Sussex, and is the UK’s leading supplier of Chinese hanging lanterns, with over 150 different designs and colours available through it’s website - www.hanginglanterns.co.uk .
We are currently searching for a schools that is looking for a unique and special way to celebrate the Chinese New Year occurring in early February.
We are looking to donate some white hanging lanterns, enabling them to be used as part of a classroom display. In fact, Chinese symbols, animals (it’s the year of the Tiger), or the child’s name (written in Chinese) could be drawn on black or red card, and stuck to the lantern before hanging.
We would like to attempt to involve local press, and to use photos (with the schools/parents permission) on the charity pages of our website.
If this is of interest, and you would like some lanterns, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0845 465 5585, or e-mail us at contact@hanginglanterns.co.uk .
Many Thanks,
Kind Regards
Rob
