Hanging Lanterns support for Chestnut Tree House

  • Hanging Lanterns support for Chestnut Tree House

The Hanging Lantern Company is extremely proud to support Chestnut Tree House, and donates 3% of all orders to the charity. We are delighted to have the opportunity to support a local charity and to get involved with bringing even the smallest amount of joy to a child’s life.

About Chestnut Tree House

Chestnut Tree House is the only children's hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county.

Completed in 2003, the hospice provides a 'home from home' environment with 10 children's bedrooms plus 8 family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool. The house is set in beautiful gardens within an area of outstanding natural beauty.

There are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex. Chestnut Tree House offers support for the whole family including psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support.

It costs approximately £2 million per year to provide the hospice’s services. Families are not charged for their care and the hospice receives very little government funding so it relies almost entirely on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex.

What we do

Caring for a sick child is a round the clock, exhausting job so it is important for the whole family to have a break, to take time out and relax. Chestnut Tree House, located near Arundel, is the only children's hospice in Sussex. We provide care for children and young people who have life-limiting illnesses - such as Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, Hunters Syndrome, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, multiple disabilities, cancer and progressive genetic disorders - which means that they will probably die before they reach adulthood.

No two days are alike at Chestnut Tree House but we try to create a home from home atmosphere, somewhere where it is possible for the children and families to spend time together, to do things they wouldn't normally be able to do and to create special memories together.

There are special bedrooms for children who come for overnight respite care, family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool. The house is set in beautiful gardens within an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The care we provide at Chestnut Tree House is 'holistic' meaning that we care for the whole family by providing practical support, enriching experiences and the ability to live life to the full in a very special place.
