19/12/2009 - Chinese Lantern Procession at The Eden Project, Cornwall
Between November 5th 2009 and February 12th 2010 The Eden Project in Cornwall celebrates “A Time of Gifts”, Eden’s winter festival.
The late night festive celebrations at The Eden Project consists hanging lantern processions, sparkling lights, choirs, ice skating, food and Christmas story telling. Special late night openings allow the public to wander through the rainforest with Chinese lanterns to light their way.
The tradition of Chinese lantern processions began hundreds of years ago in The Orient when the children of towns and villages made Chinese lanterns of all shapes, sizes and colours to parade through the streets warding of evil spirits. The red Chinese lanterns were then hung outside of the homes to protect all those inside and bring good fortune to the inhabitants.
